Patrick Michaels, Ph.D.

Dr. Patrick Michaels is a licensed clinical psychologist in Tennessee. He provides individual and group therapy services for people with a variety of mental health conditions as well as substance use disorders. He has extensive experience working with people with severe mental illnesses including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, and chronic PTSD. He completed graduate coursework at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL. His primary psychotherapy training was in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and incorporates mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and recovery-oriented evidence-based practices. He completed his internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Cleveland, OH, where he further specialized in psychiatric rehabilitation practices focusing on advocacy, empowerment, hope, resilience, and self-determination. Dr. Michaels has conducted five anti-stigma program evaluations and worked as the assistant director for resource development for the Mental Health Association of San Francisco under the supervision of Patrick Corrigan, Psy.D., the director of the National Consortium on Stigma and Empowerment. Dr. Michaels’ publication history includes 21 peer-reviewed publications, 2 book chapters, 11 poster presentations, and 2 grand rounds presentations.

When Dr. Michaels is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children. He enjoys Nashville’s outdoor activities, gardening, running, and traveling.
